I’m working as a software developer and IT consultant. My first experience with professional software developement dates back into 1990. Since mid of the 90s I’m working as a fulltime developer.
While working in this area I always had one main programming language which I spent most of my time. Starting with C/C++ this changed towards perl as the web came. Later it shifted to java. Nowadays this is smalltalk and javascript. Javascript is the language I earn my money at the moment but smalltalk is my absolute favourite to spend time on.
Over the years I learned a higher two digit amount of three to four letter acronym technologies. I would say quite a usual IT career. At the moment my focus is more on programming languages and programming technologies. I’m a big fan of object-oriented technologies (or better object-only technologies) like smalltalk and gemstone/magma. But the functional programming aspects are creeping in slowly filling some of the gaps.
I manage another site for non-programming stuff and native tongue :) So it is german and available here
